PHYSICS EDUCATION RESEARCH

The Division of Physics Education is a disciplinary based research group, which is an integral part of the
Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Ångström Laboratory at Uppsala University.
The activities of the group are centred principally around Higher Education, and the interplays
between scientific literacy, student learning and the form and content of university
physics and related engineering curricula and teaching. Typically
this research draws on conceptual framing and theoretical
perspectives that have factors such as social identity,
disciplinary discourse, epistemology, metacognition,
language, gender, visualization, simulation, culture and worldview as
important underpinning attributes. Physics and engineering students'
experiences of learning, teaching and their environments, and their
experienced culture, and values, prior education, and
personal aspirations provide important constituents for our work.
